| The
Buzzard's
Roost Ranch approach to training emphasizes the development of trust
and partnership between horse and rider.
Our training specializes in
young horses with little experience and also older horses with poor
beginning ground manners, etc.. Young horses should be handled from
birth; when the two-yr-olds are tied for training, the yearlings and
weanlings are also tied. Some days there might be 6 horses
tied to various shady trees, each watching and learning.
We teach them to pick up
their feet and stand quietly for grooming and saddling.
In exchange for this quiet consistency, our horses learn to accept a rider without bucking
or fear.
These fundamental skills can be applied to horses of all
ages. We graduate to round pen work and lots of long-lining,
using rubber bits initially and voice commands.
